The first ever book of Sufi poetry in English translation published in 1945 is Sunder Kand (Bhopal: Central Institute of Indian Languages). Dr. D.P. Mallik, the then Head of the Department of English, Bhopal University and Thakur Chintamani Singh (1882–1975), a distinguished scholar and historian of Sanskrit, Hindi and Urdu literature, had jointly translated Sufi poetry from Persian into English on subjects like Love and Life. A translation of Mira Bai’s poems in chapter VII titled: The Call to Abandon Home: The Life-Giving Waters of the Heart (pp. 25–50). This book is available in Hindi here:
